Review: The Beholder

The Beholder by Anna Bright My rating: 4 of 5 stars Thank you HaperTeen for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. The Beholder is an equal mix of politics and romance intertwingled together just right. As I began the book, I questioned myself what this book would intel since the beginning seems so simplistic. It starts with the dilemma leading Selah to go around the continent to find the one. The plot is set based on so many fairy tales. I thought that it would be something cliche, but I loved the surprise that I got. Overall, I enjoyed the book. I wonder what other books in the series will bring. I had never imagined that The Beholder was a ship, to be honest. The shock that I got at the end was predictable to some extent, however, the degree of it surprised me. I would recommend this book to some who like the mix of fairy tale, romance, and historical fiction. It is comparable to The Selection, but not quite making it a un

Review: Evermore

Evermore by Sara Holland My rating: 3 of 5 stars Thanks to HarperTeen for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. 3&1/2 star Oh boy. This book was a very fast read. I personally enjoyed this book, but it was somewhat boring. Plus, I thought that the plot was a little bit rushed creating holes. What I really mean is that I love the whole concept of the Alchemist and the Sorceress. It is definitely unique. As such, I feel as though Holland did not do justice to the book by ending everything so soon. There are books that end sooner than they should while others are stretched beyond purpose. This series is the former kind is all I am saying. In essence, I was satisfied with the ending. The writing quality is good as well. I would recommend this book to some who are just looking for a quick read. View all my reviews

Review: Queen of Air and Darkness

Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare My rating: 4 of 5 stars “Grief can be so bad you can’t breathe, but that’s what it means to be human. We lose, we suffer, but we have to keep breathing.” As usual, Clare's writing is quite captivating in this last book of The Dark Artifices series. However, I did see bits of differences in her plot structure compared to the other books. I felt as though I was reading a continuation of the TV show 'Shadowhunters'. The fact that I like about her books is that she takes on places and names from various poems and brings them back to life. Yeah, it is another thing that this poems mostly follow the gothic element. There is usually something dark as such. Overall, I loved the plot in this book. It was quite devastating at times, but then everything ends well. Of course, a Blackthorn sibling dies. Further, there are several twisted romances. Oh well. Love has no boundaries. The way the things resolved in the end wa

Review: What to Say Next

What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum My rating: 5 of 5 stars “We are all strangers to each other in the end.” I read this book a while ago and just decided to write a review since this book has remained stuck in my brain for so long. Firstly, you should know that Buxbaum's books are sometimes simply emotional. There is no getting away with it. Exploring the foundation of love when everything else in life is wrong is her specialty. Like her other book, 'Tell me Three Things', this book also starts with death. As the plot progresses, we learn about the characters themselves: Kit and David. David has Asperger's syndrome, and he is a physics nerd. His quirky scientific thoughts are just amazing. It is obvious that he would have a hard time making friends, though, due to the anxiety that comes with his situation. However, one day, Kit just sits on his table with him for lunch, and everything just changes. Overall, it was an emotional, but quick read. I wou

Review: The Light Between Worlds

The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth My rating: 4 of 5 stars "The heart of a woman falls back with the night, And enters some alien cage in its plight, And tries to forget it has dreamed of the stars While it breaks, breaks, breaks on the sheltering bars" Oh boy, had I expected this book to be completely opposite of what I got? Yes. A thousand times. Weymouth has a way with words. Each sentence contained a deep thought and emotion. Some people thought that this book is similar to Lewis's 'The Chronicles of Narnia'. I disagree, however. This book definitely has a similar concept to that beautiful series, and the characters are similar too. The thing about this book is that it says more about finding your way back home. The age-old question: Who am I? Where do I belong? Further, Weymouth also explores a bond of sisterhood. The book is divided into two perspectives told in the first person, which I thought was interesting. When I star

Review: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Seek: The Strange Case Continues

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Seek: The Strange Case Continues by Anthony O'Neill My rating: 3 of 5 stars Thanks, Edelweiss for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. "The measure of man's unhappiness is the distance between where he is and where he aspires to be." I honestly don't know why I picked up this book. Probably because it was about Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde. After reading this book, I feel like I want to read that classic book for the full experience. Firstly, I would like to say that I did not in any way expect the twist at the end. I started the book with a very low expectation. I thought it was going to be extremely boring, but it was the opposite of that. A good surprise, I suppose. Everyone knows about Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde or I hope everyone has at least heard about them. Well, yeah they are purely fictional, but that is the place where the fun starts. In this book, O'Neill writes extremely swif

Review: Cinder

Cinder by Marissa Meyer My rating: 4 of 5 stars “But if there was one thing she knew from years as a mechanic, it was that some stains never came out.” I can staunchly tell that this book is the best re-telling I have read ever. Note that I read this book a year ago and just adding the review. So, Cinder is like any other Cinderella with a small difference. She is a cyborg. Yes, you heard me right. Well, I wouldn't say that she is a robot. She is human. She just has some appendages replaced and the cause as to why that happened is quite dark. She has the worst aunts. Not one, but two. Imagine the pain. She is a Lunar Princess, and she doesn't even know that. Her injuries are caused by an aunt she didn't know she had. There are a lot of things she doesn't know. So, her story is that of self-discovery. When she learns the truth, everything changes. I feel that the first and the last book in the series are the best. I don't know if that is some kind of P
